TLDR: During the Konfir step of your Homeppl application, you may connect to HMRC to verify your PAYE employment and income records. This involves selecting HMRC, signing in via Government Gateway, and granting one-time, read-only access. Konfir does not store your password, and the connection closes after data retrieval. If you are not on PAYE, such as being self-employed, you can skip this step.
Connecting to Konfir
During the Konfir step of your Homeppl application, you may be asked to connect to HMRC. This pulls your PAYE employment and income records directly from HMRC to verify the information you have provided.
To connect:
- Select HMRC as a data source on the Konfir page.
- You will be redirected to the Government Gateway website.
- Sign in using your Government Gateway credentials (the same ones you would use to access your personal tax account).
- Approve access when prompted. This gives Konfir one-time, read-only permission to retrieve your employment and income records.
- You will be redirected back to your application automatically once the connection is complete.
Neither Homeppl nor Konfir sees or stores your Government Gateway password. The connection closes automatically after your data has been retrieved.
I'm not on PAYE
HMRC verification uses PAYE records. If you are self-employed, a contractor paid outside of PAYE, or work for a non-UK company, the HMRC connection may not return any data. You can skip this step and continue with your application.
